Abstract
Stomal varices are a cause of recurrent stomal hemorrhage in up to 30% of patients with cirrhosis, portal hypertension (PH) and surgical stomas. Definitive therapy of bleeding stomal varices (BSV) involves reduction in PH by TIPS procedure. However, not all patients can undergo TIPS due to Child-Pugh >11, age (>64), spontaneous encephalopathy, or poor renal, cardiac or hepatic function. Interventional radiological treatment options include percutaneous peristomal embolization (PPE), percutaneous transhepatic embolization (PTE) and TIPS.
