The session will first cover trends in contralateral mastectomy in germline mutation carriers and the impact of genetic testing on contralateral mastectomy utilization. Second, the session will review guidelines on contralateral mastectomy for gene carriers. Literature on potential beneficial impacts of contralateral mastectomy for gene carriers will be reviewed. Impact to contralateral risk, survival outcomes and patient quality of life will be examined. Lastly, the session will review new surgical approaches for prophylactic mastectomy and protocols to reduce pain and enhance recovery after mastectomy. Citation Format: Katharine Yao.
