Abstract

The absorption spectrum of manganese formate dihydrate has been studied at room temperature. The observed bands are assigned as transitions from the 6 A 1( S) ground state to various excited quartet levels of a Mn 2+ ion in a cubic crystalline field. The observed band positions are fitted with four parameters B, C, Dq and α, and the values obtained for the parameters are B = 800 cm −1, C = 3098 cm −1, Dq = 850 cm −1 and α = 76 cm −1.
