Abstract
We observe that the critical temperature T c in PdH x thin films decreases below room temperature for a thickness d < 600 A ̊ . Absorption-desorption cycling restores, in part, the bulk properties. These effects, also observed in a Pd-Ag alloy, are attributed to a decrease in the elastic H-H interactions by coherency stresses mainly related to the clamping of the films on the substrate. Effects possibly related to modification of these stresses are also observed in ferromagnetic Pd-Ni films.
