Abstract
Two new series of erbium - doped fluoroborate glasses have been prepared. By the use of absorption parametrization, the measured photoluminescence spectra of these glasses have been analyzed. For all the identified emission transitions, the stimulated emission cross-sections ( σ ϵ ϱ ) have been computed to understand the effects of changes in the host glass system. These slightly pink - coloured Er-glasses have shown bright VIOLET colour under a UV-lamp. The colour intensity was found to vary with the glass chemical composition.
