Abstract

A method is presented for the measurement of an absolute neutron flux with a solid-state fission counter. The procedure is simple, based on counting the relative alpha desintegration rate and fission reaction rate of the target nuclide. By applying the same principle, the effective fission cross section of the 239Pu(n, f)-reaction is measured and from this value the undisturbed resonance integral of the reaction is then determined. The value of this resonance integral is found to be 2156±57 b, which verifies closely the value from calculation but is substantially larger than the data from a Cd-filter experiment, i.e. 312.2±8.2 b.
