Abstract

This article reports on a survey of American workers that discovered they were more likely to use “sick time” for personal or family needs rather than actual illness, pointing out the need for work‐life and absence‐control programs that recognize changing workforce demographics and values. The article reports statistics on absenteeism and discusses examples of effective work‐life programs for reducing unscheduled absences.
