Abstract
Summary Initiation factors obtained by KCl treatment from reticulocyte ribosomes are not species specific for hemoglobin synthesis. Both rabbit and guinea pig KCl factors enhance the synthesis of rabbit hemoglobin by rabbit cell free system and of guinea pig hemoglobin by guinea pig cell free system. This synthesis is proportional to a certain extent to the amount of KCl factor added, and will continue in some cases for a period of three hours.
