Abstract
A novel approach to the Abraham-Minkowski dilemma based on the first principle is presented. Typically the Abraham form of the photon momentum has been considered to be inherent to the particle nature of photon. However, it was shown that by taking into consideration only the photon characteristics as a particle and implementing energy conservation law in the presented simple thought experiment the Minkowski form of the photon momentum also appears.
