Kai's teaching and research areas include queer theory, transnational sexualities, and Hong Kong studies, as well as multiethnic literatures and cultures in the US and the UK. Kai's current book project, “Untimely Developments: Queer Temporalities in Global Anglophone Hong Kong Literature and Culture,” assembles a literary archive of alternative pasts and futures as imagined by queer and feminist anglophone writers in Hong Kong and the larger Asian diaspora. Kai's writings have appeared in MELUS, Pacific Coast Philology, Alif, Gender Forum, and Social Text Online.Freda L. Fair is assistant professor of gender and women's studies and black studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
