Abstract

Our biology department has voted not to draw blood in the nonmajors course (Biology 1, Concepts of Biology) because of the concern about transmission of virus diseases (AIDS, hepatitis, etc.) in crowded student laboratories. One of our genetics laboratories used blood typing as a human genetics example, and it usually evoked great interest among students. I have now found a computer program that goes through the lab procedures for ABO and Rh blood typing and use it with students in the genetics lab.
