Abstract
Cytoplasmic ribosomes from cycloheximide sensitive and resistant strains of Coprinus cinereus were dissociated with EDTA and analysed by sucrose density-gradient centrifugation. The double mutant CY 9·23 (cy-2r modcy+) showed dissociation of the 60S subunit under these conditions. Recombinant strains carrying the cy-2r and modcy+ alleles separately showed no dissociation of this subunit; thus the modcy+ and cy-2r gene products interact to produce ribosomes with a modified structure.
