Abstract

Liquid crystal (LC) lenses are prepared using a glass lens (GL) and one or two LC layers. The focal length is electrically tunable from that of GL. Wavefront aberrations such as the root-mean-square aberration, astigmatism, coma, and spherical aberrations of LC compound lenses are measured using a Fizeau interferometer (Zygo DVD-400, with a wavelength of 405 nm). Small values of aberrations are obtained in the compound lens prepared using GL and two LC layers.
