An attempt is now usually made to diagnose clinically and to classify anatomically the type of malformation present. Some malformations are difficult to diagnose, requiring such elaborate technics as catherization of the heart chambers and gas analysis of the blood. Many malformations can be correctly diagnosed by ordinary clinical means. Such a malformation is the anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery.
