Abstract

Introduction: The correlation between maximum diameter and rupture in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) has been studied extensively, and a maximum AAA diameter of 55 mm in men or a diameter growth of more than 10 mm per year are accepted to indicate AAA repair. However, the maximum diameter criterion fails to describe AAA rupture risk in a patient specific manner and should therefore not directly be applied to individual patients. The poor sensitivity of diameter has been known for a long time and has stimulated the search for more patient specific risk indicators.
