Abstract

Background: IGF-1 is protective on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury but the mechanisms responsible for its salutary effect remain obscured. Methods: This study was conducted in isolated adult rat cardiac myocytes. After 4 hours' pre-culture, myocytes were incubated in the absence or presence of IGF-1 (100 nM) for 60 min and subjected to 60 min hypoxia followed by 30 min reoxygenation at 37 °C. Mitochondrial respiratory enzyme activities and membrane potential (ΔΨm) were determined to evaluate mitochondrial function.
