Abstract

Blocking the possible transmission pathways is critical for COVID-19 control in metropolitan cities. A “whole society” approach has been implemented in Shanghai, a metropolitan city in China since the initial stage, and the epidemic is under control till present. In this approach, comprehensive policies of transmission control were implemented by mobilizing the whole society, including sorts of organizations and communities, and adapted to the stage and location of the epidemic as well. Disease control serves as the backbone of the policies in responding to the COVID-19 outbreak and paves the way to economic revival in the metropolitan city of Shanghai. Given the severity of COVID-19, the comprehensive policies for blocking transmission should be advised, although the lack of sufficient evidences to distinguish the effects of various measures.
