Abstract

Abstract The visit by A. W. Franks of the British Museum to the Irish Industrial Exhibition in Dublin in 1853 gave him the opportunity to assess the holdings of Irish antiquarian material displayed there. This soon led to purchases for the museum. The collections that most interested him are discussed here, along with another, long known to William Ridgeway, who eventually bought it on behalf of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society.
