Abstract

A serious problem on the Internet nowadays is Distr ibuted Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks and this is coordinated attack performed by hackers to immobilize a particular Computer serv ice through manipulation of techniques those are us ed to provide the Services. In this attack, normally attackers generate a huge amo unt of requests to victims through compromised comp uters. DDoS attacks are a critical threat to the internet. Packet flooding DD oS attack is a very common way to attack a victim m achine by sending large amount of unwanted traffic. This paper proposes a threshol d based approach to detect and prevent the DDoS att ack before reaching the victim end with high detection rate and low false p ositive rate to achieve high performance. The resul t obtained from various experiments on UDP Flood attack and HTTP GET attack show the effectiveness and the efficiency of our a pproach.
