Abstract

Graduate aerospace engineering education in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics in the Graduate School of Engineering and Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio is described. Recent initiatives to increase student enrollments and the new test 'wing' in the latest building addition to AFIT labs are discussed. Specific graduate degree programs offered within the department to meet United States Air Force (USAF) advanced academic degree (AAD) education requirements are also described. These graduate programs include a Master of Science (MS) degree in Aeronautical, Astronautical, and Systems Engineering as well as an MS in Space Operations and Materials Science. This last program is an example of AFIT's and the Aeronautics and Astronautics Department's unique ability to rapidly respond to USAF needs. A discussion of a more current desire for an advanced degree in Aerospace and Information Operations will also be discussed.
