Abstract
A democracia é o reino do excesso (Rancière, 2014), o que faz dela um território permeável a todo o tipo de ataques, incluindo a mentira, o populismo radical de direita e a desinformação (Southwell et al, 2018; Wardle & Derakshan, 2017, Figueira, 2023). Os níveis de confiança nos políticos e nas instituições, por seu lado, têm vindo a baixar na maioria dos países ocidentais (Giddens, 2010), tendência que é vista como consequência dos ataques e acusações que a mídia lhes move.
