Abstract

It is well known that the Hamilton-Jacobi equation can be derived from Hamilton's variational principle by the methods of control theory. If a suitable random disturbance is added to the formulation of Hamilton's principle, it is shown that these methods lead to Schrödinger's equation, and to some other results in quantum theory.
