Abstract
An arched dicadmium‐substituted vanadogermanate dimer, {[Cd(en)2][Cd(en)]2Ge8V12O40(OH)8}2{[Cd(en)(H2O)]2}·en·2H2O (1; en = ethylenediamine), was prepared hydrothermally and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, powder X‐ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and X‐ray single‐crystal diffraction. Notably, 1 represents the first vanadogermanate‐based dimer and contains two dicadmium‐substituted {[Cd(en)2][Cd(en)]2Ge8V12O40(OH)8} cluster units and rare dinuclear {[Cd(en)(H2O)]2+}2 cations as linkages. Then, the adjacent dimers are further extended by a pair of bridging [Cd(en)2]2+ complexes to form a 1D hybrid sinusoidal chain. All V ions are present in the valence of +4. The magnetic behavior demonstrates the antiferromagnetic interactions within the VIV centers. Furthermore, luminescence measurements demonstrate an intense blue luminescent emission in the solid state.
