Abstract
A universal way, which is independent of computer programming, is presented to determine whether a given nonlinear partial differential equation can be transformed to a bilinear equation of KdV type via a logarithmic transformation. When it can be transformed, all the parameters are determined so that the bilinear equation is written explicitly.
