Abstract
An application-specific microcomputer unit (MCU) which implements all the necessary features of high-speed data bus, low power consumption, large memory addressability, and LCD (liquid crystal display) drive for battery-operated handheld terminal and personal data bank application is described. This device is an 8-bit CMOS MCU in a 128-pin quad flat pack. It has 27 I/O lines, 8-bit data and 16-bit address lines for 64 Kbytes memory access, real-time clock, 40 LCD front plane drives in 1/16 multiplexing mode, two system clocks, and an RS232-type serial communication port. >
