Abstract

O U R I N C R E A S I N G knowledge of the fundamental interactions involved in body fluid and electrolyte homeostasis is continuously reducing the empiricism employed in parenteral therapy. Simultaneously, the added complexity could negate the potential advantages for the usual patient by creating new confusion in the minds of physicians. It is the purpose of this r6sum6 to avert this hazard by presenting a practical, unified approach to the management of a variety of problems requiring intravenous hydration.
