Abstract
A two-port disc-shaped multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is investigated for ultra-wideband (UWB) systems. The inter-element isolation is improved by inserting an electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure between the monopole radiators. The MIMO antenna with EBG offers a wide impedance bandwidth (S11 ≤ −10 dB) of 120 % (3–12 GHz), isolation of 25 dB, and peak gain >5 dBi over the UWB range. The low-profile MIMO antenna is printed on the FR-4 substrate and has a size of 30 × 60 × 1.6 mm3.
