Abstract

A prototype two-dimensional x-ray detector featuring an 80 mm photocathode and the use of a charge-coupled device array as the data integration and readout element was evaluated. By comparison to previously described detectors using SIT vidicons as readout devices, this detector showed low noise, improved uniformity of response and reduced size, complexity and cost. Improvements are suggested which would make such a detector highly suitable for x-ray diffraction work.
