Abstract
Coupled, effective, two-body Schrödinger equations are obtained for a three-particle system with arbitrary orbital and spin angular momenta, assuming that the dependence of the wave function on the interparticle distance is of the product form u( r 1, r 2, r 3) = Π 3 i=1 g i ( r i ). The expectation value of the kinetic energy, expressed in triangular coordinates, is given in a form suitable for computation. A series of approximations is discussed to account for the possibility that the wave function contains a spurious part.
