Abstract

This paper proposes a new linear actuator having a negative stiffness characteristic for a high static low dynamic stiffness (HSLDS) system. The proposed actuator can generate a force like positive or negative springs according to the direction and amplitude of an input current. In this way, an isolator having a fixed static stiffness and tunable dynamic stiffness can be achieved. The force characteristics of the actuator are verified by using 2-D finite element method.
