Abstract

One of the latest high energy physics machines was officially recognized when the Prime Minister of Canada took part in a dedication ceremony on 9 February 1976. Although the acronym arises from 'Tri-University Meson Facility', it is a joint venture of the universities of Alberta, Simon Fraser, Victoria and British Columbia, with the major contribution to the cost of construction ($36m) coming from the Canadian government.
