Abstract

Two transputer boards with five T800 transputers have been fitted into a VME-based multiprocessor system for experimental data acquisition at VEDAS, to be used for real-time recalibration calculations. The properties of the transputer, i.e. its RISC (reduced instruction set computer) structure and embedded interprocessor links, make it a powerful tool for fast data treatment. The transputers have been configured as a dedicated processor network for optimized data throughput. A description is given of the T800 transputer; the VME boards; the software, including the occam language and the Transputer Development System (TDS), an integrated programming environment; and the implementation of the system.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
