Abstract

Introduces the basic features of a proposed transport theoretic approximation of the one-speed neutron transport equation. The method utilises the exact results of Case et al (1967) and retains the use of the eigenfunctions phi 0+or-( mu ) together with a properly constructed rational approximation phi nu ( mu ) of the singular eigenfunction phi nu ( mu ) as the complete set of basis functions. A major contribution of this work is the adaption of Case's orthogonality relations to this basis, ( phi 0+or-( mu ), phi nu ( mu )), for obtaining the desired solution.
