Abstract
The study examines the practical issues of the regulation of the right of assembly, with special reference to the police tasks and enforcement dilemmas in Hungary since 1989. It shows that the right of assembly plays an important role in the protection of democracy and human rights, and describes the problems encountered in interactions between police and demonstrators. The study stresses the importance of communication and conflict management to ensure peaceful demonstrations, and the need for the development of legal regulation and practice.
