Abstract
AbstractA method for determining CO2 efflux rates from large soil samples (50 to 200 g) is described. The method permits the measurement of cumulative CO2 efflux from large numbers of incubated samples in about 2 min/sample. The apparatus includes a CO2 scrubber, soil incubation jars, flow meter, drying column, dilution jar, and infrared gas analyzer. Results obtained using this method were less variable than results obtained with a Gilson differential respirometer when a homogeneous forest soil sample was tested.
