Abstract
Soft-pion techniques, together with the tractable approximation of considering only emission from external nucleon lines, are used for a calculation ofNN →NN π near threshold. The results vary from 1.2 to 3 times the experimental data. A similar calculation of pp → π+d is within 25% of experimental cross-section data. Finally, we obtain a relation (independent of soft-pion techniques) between pp → π+d and pp → π+np.
