Abstract
Abstract Shugart has written a readable, not too complex text on the use of computer simulation models in forest dynamics. It should be of interest to New Zealand ecologists, as it represents a field of research relatively unknown in this country. The book deals primarily with the use of “gap models”. Gap models simulate (1) the growth of individual trees, (2) the demography of multi-species assemblages of individuals, and (3) the changes in the abiotic environment induced by, or influential on, these two biotic scales.
