Abstract

The convective motion of gas in the gravitational field is described for an axisymmetric body with the cylinder ends maintained at different temperatures. A system including the equation of heat conduction, the Navier-Stokes equations, and the continuity equation is analyzed. The convective velocity components vz′ (r, z), vr′ (r, z) and the temperature T are determined as functions of the cylindrical coordinates. The time required for the establishment of thermal equilibrium by means of convection and heat conduction is estimated.
