Abstract
Recently, we showed the effect of vibrational relaxation caused by electron–hole pair excitations on photo-desorbed NO from a Pt(1 1 1) surface [J. Chem. Phys., 119 (2003) 9710]. In this previous study, the effect of surface or lattice vibrations was not taken into account, and the degrees of freedom (DOF) of the molecular system were restricted to 2D. In this Letter, we report a study on the vibrational relaxation dynamics of adsorbed NO resulting from interactions with surface phonons. We include an additional DOF, and surface motions, and evaluate their influence using the Golden rule formula.
