Abstract

A new dinuclear vanadium(V) complex, [(µ-O)2V2O2L2]·4H2O, [where HL = 2-((2-(ethylamino)ethylimino)methyl)-5-(diethylamino)phenol] has been synthesized and subsequently characterized by elemental and spectral studies. Structure of the complex has been confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction study. The four lattice water molecules in the crystal structure are assembled to form a tetrameric water cluster (W4), stabilized via hydrogen bonding interactions. These clusters further interconnect with the complex moiety to generate a 1D supramolecular chain of the complex in the solid state. The interaction energies and the possible cooperativity effects have been studied using DFT calculations and the MEP surface analysis.
