Abstract
O objetivo do presente artigo é examinar, a partir do debate que se estabeleceu na segunda metade do século XIX acerca da constituição do tecido nervoso entre neuronistas e reticularistas, a proposta híbrida para a constituição da retina apresentada por Ferruccio Tartuferi (1852-1925) em 1887. Pretendemos também iniciar uma discussão sobre algumas soluções apresentadas na segunda metade do século XIX para a explicação da percepção visual por vias puramente anatomo-fisiológicas a partir do conceito de célula visual.
