Abstract

This article seeks to characterize Anglicanism, at the same time Catholic and Protestant. The history of the Church is marked by pendulum swings between the two currents. In order to understand Anglicanism it is best to look to its liturgy and catequism than to look at specific doctrinal contents, which are practically nonexistent. The practice of Anglican communion and the Quadrilateral of Lambeth can also be observed. Paul Tillich commented on the concept of the Via Media, comparing it to the tension between Catholic substance and the Protestant principle, and lamenting the lack of radical experiences of thought. The present text analyzes the advantages and the limits of this concept, in a brief critical analysis.
