Abstract
A method to study wood decay in pure culture, with the effects of extraneous nutrient materials eliminated, is described and tested for uniformity. The feeder strip, supported by two glass rods (5 mm diam) above wet sand in a petri plate, is inoculated with the fungus. Up to six wood blocks of known weight are placed on the feeder strip after the fungus is established and incubated. Weight loss is determined at the end of the incubation period. The method is adaptable for specialized studies of wood decay when it is desired to minimize or control the factor of extraneous nutrients.
