Abstract

A concept called biased addition is proposed as a technique to simplify modular addition when the modulus is a large integer. Then it is shown that biased addition can be used in a residue number system (RNS) to generate a full set of projections as required for RNS error detection and correction. Application of biased addition simplifies the network structure of an RNS error checker so that the resulting structure is more attractive for VLSI implementation.
