Abstract

The image representing the Senhor Bom Jesus da Cana Verde is established in the municipality of Siqueira Campos in the Old North of the State of Parana, in the South of Brazil. This image has been attracting thousands of pilgrims since the end of the 19th century when it was propriety of the family of Francisco Pinto. However, after the conflicts established in the Arraial Bom Jesus in April 1933, the image has been in the power of the Igreja Matriz. With investments made around the sanctuary, the image receives in the first week of August an average of two thousand pilgrims. In August 1967, there was a turning point when frei Gabrielângelo presented in cinemas a theatricalized story around Senhor Bom Jesus da Cana Verde.
