Abstract
A literature review was performed using PubMed, EMBASE, and CENTRAL databases. Of 23 studies, that included 3130 patients who had undergone transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR), the technical success rate was 98%, the 30-day neurologic event rate was 2%, and the 30-day death rate was 1%. Also, carotid dissection had occurred in 2% of patients and cranial nerve injury in 1% of patients. The review showed that TCAR is feasible with a high technical success rate. The procedure had a low incidence of complications and should be considered an acceptable alternative for patients undergoing treatment for carotid artery stenosis.
