Abstract

Objective To investigate the professional values of the traditional Chinese medicine undergraduate nursing students and analyze the influencing factors to guide the nursing professional value education.Methods A total of 223 nursing students from shanghai Chinese traditional medicine university were interviewed by the Nurses Professional Values Scale (NPVS-R) revised by Chen Tianyan.Results The score of professional values of the traditional Chinese medicine undergraduate nursing students was 83.90 ± 13.93.4 dimension trust' contributed 69.5% (the highest) and 2 dimension 'ctivism'contributed 61.6% (the lowest).The first 5 items of professional values in this survey were:maintenance of patient's right to privacy,keep the patient's trust to the medical staff,responsibility for own practice,refusal to participate in care if in ethical opposition to own professional values,protection for moral and legal rights of patients.There were significant differences in the students of different grades in dimension 1 'care and supply' (P =0.014) and of different level of academic achievement.Conclusions The traditional Chinese medicine undergraduate nursing students should improve the nursing students' professional values.Compared with on-the-job nurses,nursing students paid more attention to maintaining the patient's dignity and rights and had no higher awareness of updating knowledge and skills.Nursing eductor should pay attention to the professional values training and consolidation of the student who have good achievement and senior class students especially internship nursing students.
