Abstract

One of the major sectors in wireless networks is the Ad - hoc network. It mainly classified into two categories MANETs (Mobile Ad-hoc Networks) and VANETs (Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks). VANET is the ad-hoc network which having ad-hoc nodes in the form of vehicles which communicate among themselves. Combining vehicles and the Roadside Unit (RSU) constitutes a network. VANET has become a major field of research in the improvement of safety of vehicles and the roads, efficiency of the traffic, and also to increase the comfort to both drivers and passengers. VANETs differ a lot from MANETs because of the fact that VANETs include highly mobile vehicles, which causes many challenges in designing a VANET network. Different Clustering techniques are used to overcome this challenges and it can be done by grouping the vehicles but not all methods are enough to compile all the issues so we need to do a review on different clustering techniques. Cluster designs focus primarily on the design of stable clusters and the decision of members of the cluster, which is done by using one or more members from within the cluster as the head of that cluster. But the selection of CH (Cluster Head) is the most critical issue. The clustering algorithms that are being made use of in VANETs have been discussed in various research studies. In this article, we will be discussing the literature related to the different cluster head selection algorithms that are being used for VANETs and will talk about its challenges and issues. In addition, the proposed technique is assessed and compared to existing techniques according to the parameters.
