Abstract

We report a case of osteosynthesis with femoral nerve block (FNB) and local infiltration anesthesia of the surgical field in a 48-year-old male with femoral neck fracture complicated by alcoholic cardiomyopathy. The patient fell during treatment for acute exacerbation of alcoholic chronic heart failure and was diagnosed with a left femoral neck fracture, which required prompt surgery. Since general and spinal anesthesia may both have worsened the patient's condition, we selected to manage anesthesia with FNB alone and local anesthesia of the surgical field. The operation time was 34 min, no additional sedatives or analgesics were required during surgery, and the patient's circulatory and respiratory status was stable. In this case, we carefully assessed the patient's condition preoperatively and selected anesthetic management using FNB to avoid perioperative adverse events.
