Abstract
Virtual machining simulator (VMSim) for the fiat end mill has been already developed so far, hence the VMSim for the ball end mill is developed in this paper. This system consists of a geometric simulator and a physical simulator to evaluate machining process with predicting the instantaneous cutting force and machining error based on cutting models. Furthermore, the modification algorithms of tool paths, especially for the linear interpolation and the circular interpolation, in order to reduce the machining errors are proposed and embedded to the VMSim. In case studies, a requirement for the machining error is assumed and the modification of tool paths is carried out. The feasibility of them is demonstrated and the possibility of trial-less machining is discussed.
